How do I measure car speakers accurately so that I can replace them?

Answers:
use the screw holes match them with the new speakers so they will fit
If they are stock speakers, Crutchfield has a good "find what fits" selector that should help. Go here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/s-vte4jgurnad.
measure the diameter of the speaker
that should be your measurement for speaker "size"
you also want to keep in mind the DEPTH of your current speakers, some aftermarket speakers that are better quality may have bigger magnets and such requiring them to be deeper.. and may not fit in the place you want to put them.
most decent car audio shops will have a size guide that will let you know . halfords will be able to tell you, and for a small fee may be able to fit them
go to crutchfield.com they have some software that will tell you what fits in your ride in the stock locations
Take the speaker with you. Easier than trying to guess. If you know of a independant car audio shop go there as they will be more helpful rather than the students that work at halfords
