Why don't you use a bicycle to get around?

Too lazy? Habituated to a motor car? Can't balance? Too dangerous? Too many hills? Climate not conducive? Nowhere to store the bike? Keep on breaking down? Not practical? Never even considered this ancient mode of transport?

State whereabouts you live please.

Answers:
I do,

Not lazy I ain't Lance Armstrong but I could do over 60+ miles a week using my bicycle.
Prefer it to driving.
Balance is no problem once you keep moving.
Its the roads are dangerous not the rider.
Hills? I look for mountains to cycle up.
Climate wise its ok once you wear the relevant gear.
Bicycle is stored in my bike shed.
Breaking downs are few if you keep the bike maintained and carry a repair kit.
Its very practical.
I wouldn't even consider swopping my bicycle for the NASA space shuttle.

Live in Ireland between hills and mountains.

Thank you for asking.
because you are lazy
Cars are soooo much more convenient. They also keep you in a privacy shell. I live in California, but it would only be practical here about 2/3 of the year.
I definitely would, except for the fact that I work 50 miles away from home. I already have to leave over an hour to get to work on time! I might as well just stay at work!
Are you kidding?
I live in New York City, I'd die before I get to the end of the block.
I live near myrtle beach south carolina I would ride a bike but its not that practical. If everything was closer in proximity I would def ride a bike. Plus you dont have to worry about bikes polluting the air and you dont have to worry aobut gas prices. People in Europe ride bikes for transportation. I knew some people in Holland and they said they rode bikes.
Too sodding dangerous, especially around here.
I live about thirty miles from the nearest town. **** that bicycle.
I live in Vermont.

Bikes are better in so many ways. Reasons why are because people are LAZY or they need to get somewhere fast! Too impatient. It is so much economical and cheaper to ride a bike.
were I live, it's illegal to ride my bike agross a bridge. It's illegal to walk on this bridge! But I do ride my bike a lot, but wouldn't leave it out, it'd be stollen in less than 5 seconds.
A couple of reasons for me. I HAVE to take the freeway to get myself to work and bikes aren't allowed on them. Also, I am an executive and wouldn't be able to dress the way that I would while riding a bike, in addition to being all sweaty by the time I got to work.
Please see and answer my question I just asked this morning regarding this topic.

Well the reason I don't is because I live 60 miles away from where I work. I could ride my bike, but it would take me 20 hours probably.

In Southern California, pedal bikes aren't allowed on the freeways, but sport bikes are.
Liverpool-Don't actually have a bike but if i did i wudn't use it to get to uni coz i wun't wanna turn up all sweaty! and I don't think there are many storage places-or if thre that safe!
first, i live in the dessert and everything is way too far away to bike to (like 10+ miles) in the summer heat it is soooo not worth it.
second,
my apartment community started fining people who leave bikes on their balconys. (amongst other unsightly objects)
third, after i move into a house we'll save up money for a bike :) how i do love to ride :)
i live in south western washington state part of the year, too much rain. I live in maine part of the year, too cold. When its nice out i bike for exercise and to get out of the house, and sometimes to go to the store for a couple items.
Because I live in NY. Although, I'm in an outer borough it hardly matters when it comes to traffic. Drivers barely make allowances for each other and pedestrians never-mind cyclists. Greenways are not connected so if you find a place to ride, you'll end up having to cross a highway or something sooner or later
I work 65 miles away from home. A bicycle would be terribly ineffective to get around on. However I often ride my bike with my family when I do get home. We will go out for 30 minutes a night. State Utah
We live in california, In Monterey Bay. we do! except for big grocery shopping trips, or in the rain, or traveling hours away. My husband works for a company that sells bike lights- so he gets a bonus for riding to work- but he would anyway, he always has. I do with our almost 2 year old, he loves it, and he already has a bike too, except he cant use it yet. but when he can reach the petals he defenitly will be riding with us.
Because I'm not ready to become a kamikaze twat who dresses up in glorified tights which are louder than a klaxon.
because i live 15 miles from civilisation.
I use a train.
i do it takes me 5 minutes to get to work.. in a car it would take about 15.. bit of a bummer in the rain tough..
Don't have one
I would if there was a bike path near my house that went to my work. I don't like sharing the street with car with drivers talking on cell phones. I used to work with a guy who got hit by a truck while riding his bike, and another who died when a car hit him. I will only ride on bike paths.
I don`t have a bicycle :(, i live in africa , which explains why i don`t have a bicycle. I ride around on a elephant instead :)
I live down south and have to travel 20 miles to get to school. I used to use my bike when i only traveled into my local village but to get into town is just to far. So that's my reason, everywhere is just too far away to use my bike. I only ride for leasure.
I work 25 miles from home, so thats impossible, I also live in Michigan, so its not possible in the winter. I do ride my bike to the park, for entertainment.. But I do not ride a bike to get around. it takes too much time to get places on a bike. It would be nice to be able to ride a bike more often.
No bike paths=you will get run over!
a bike would be fine to use if it never rained. when it does those stupid mountain bikes splash dirty water up the back seat of your pants and then it looks like you had a depends moment
I do use my Bicycle to get around. Well mainly because my "motor vehicle" is in the states and I am in England. But anything within 40 miles of starting point I do use my bike to get to, unless I am carrying a huge package. I reckon I will keep this up for the most part when I do move back Stateside.
I live in California, specifically the Bay area. Riding a bike to get around for me is not practical. I commute 30 miles to work, besides the fact i have 11 month old twins to haul around as well. Maybe if I was single, no kids and lived close to my job I would do it. I think that it would be better for those that can ride to get around to do it more often, but it just wouldnt work for me.
My school is only a mile away BUT at the top of a really steep hill, it takes half the time of the whole journey! UK
