Faulty Ford Galaxy 1998 audio system 2007R RDS draining the battery?

Our car has a 2007r RDS audio system which has an external amplifier. It works properly but it never switches off, draining the battery, at the moment we plugged out the fuse. We took it to an audio centre and they said that the amplifier was faulty and we had to replace it (£ 250) but I have the feeling that it might be a wrong wiring. Can anybody help me?

The amp on the Ford 2007 takes it power from the Radio
When the radio is off the Amp is off Thats the standard Ford Wiring. It does not have a power cable. It has like a data cable that carries power and sound. Like a big USB plug on your PC. Like if you turn off your PC your USB devices go off. the "R" stands for "remote" amp
If how ever it is not the original radio and amp it is Possible to wire it differently But I think that is most unlikely as the radio wouldnt have a data plug to get the sound out.
Although It is a seperate amp It is all one unit. The radio wont work with out the amp as there is No amp in it. There is a data cable from the radio to the amp unit that carries the Signal and power.
it is just the same as a normal car radio When the radio is off the amp is off. That has an amp inside connected to the receiver On this ford unit it is just further away with longer wires in a seperate box to aid cooling.
Does the Radio switch off with the Key? if it does not the radio is connected wrongly.
How do you know it is the amp drawing power? Some of the older Fords do have an awful problem of draing batteries. The most common cause I have seen is the alternator leaks current back. yes it may be charging but when off drains the power. Also some alarms drain power over a long period.
I recomend a good Auto electrician to check the power drain on the battrey with every thing off There is alway a slight current drain KAM from the engine management, alarm if fitted, and clock this should only be milliamps
I have just been in Polar ford and they had to jump start a new Focus St and a Galaxy that have been in the showroom for 2 weeks So even brand new fords suffer the drain over a period
The FD 2007 is a cracking system I paid about £400 to have this in my Sierra 2.9 XR 4X4 when it was new it was Fords top of the range ICE at the time
ISTR seeing somewhere that some sophisticated car radios can be programmed to listen out for things like traffic announcements all the time - even when "switched off" - and can drain batteries as a result. It might be worth checking the operating manual or having a word with your local Ford dealer.
