Roadworks & Maintenance?

Should road works be done in day time or night time early hours of the morning

Answers:
Would you really want road work noise outside your window in the middle of the night? Daytime obviously gives the workers a clearer view than a load of spotlights at night would. Then there's the supplies. Dirty great lorries full of tarmac etc trundling around waking people up, and the factories that supply them would have to be working too creating more noise. In the UK there are laws governing noise which prevents night works unless it's an emergency. Night time works would also create a danger both to the workers and nocturnal road users. Some works are done at night, motorways for example, which is why you never see the workers there during the day. (too dangerous) Railway bridge repairs are often done at night because of the disruption that would be caused to the whole rail network, but mostly day time work is the lesser of all those evils. So I say stick to day road works.
they should be done at night time, but then the road workers would want extra pay to work nights which would mean higher road taxes.
i think it shold depend on when the road in question is least in use, perhaps a servey should be taken before hand
Late night and early hours if its quiet enough. They should be more productive without the sun cooking them.
the main poblem with road construction is the workers are SLOW! and lazy. i think that the government agency accepting bids for the road construction jobs need to say if you want the job its yours but if you dont finish the job on time you dont get paid. make that part of the agreement.
Depending on where you live and how they write the contracts they can be done at all hours
It takes so long to do road works it can't be helped if it spills into the day. Better management would help and well sign posted detours. It would also help if they got on with it, how many times do you speed restrictions and bollards everywhere for weeks but no work going on.
late night and early morning, works for me
its usually decided by the local council or highway authority, not the contractor, also health and safety, noise pollution, traffic rush hours, money, etc, all play a part in deciding when work is done,,,,but joe public never stops moaning whether its night or day !
