We have a rover gsi 111 that suddenly over revs or comes to a juddering stop and wont start untill later?

If the Rover suddenly Revs up for no reason ? you can only have an air leak ! .. ( as only air will make the engine rev higher not fuel). I think that this car also has a plastic Inlet manifold that is water heated..
It is not un-common for there to be a fault with the the gasket which , then lets air into your engine and makes the engine rev without touching the throttle . it may also be that water is getting sucked through another part of this gasket and then prevents you from starting the car untill the water has disipated.. It would be intresting to know how long it take before you can re-start the car .
Sounds like an ECU problem to me, either contact your dealer or a diagnostic specialist, can sometimes be repaired, costly job if it needs to be replaced.

sounds like your fuel supply is being interrupted, fuel pump not working properly probably worn out, but then it is a rover-sorry.
