Pugeot 306 1.9tdi will start when towed or pushed but will not start with key.car turns over 'nothing happends

you should never push start a diesel.. it is not good aparently..
sounds like your glow plugs are shot. of if they are ok you are looking at poor compression "if it runs ropey it will be compression" get the plugs tested first as compression test is more expensive.
i believe this because the car turns over.. so it is not a charging problem.. plus my old 106 did the same thing "it is a peugeot thing"
Check out the battery, getting old? Starter motor next bet, injectors dirty, get engine tuned.
Sounds like the safety neutral switch is messed up.
Does it make its normal noise when turning over or is it buzzy and fast??

do you turn key and nothing happens ?
does ignition light come on then go off when cranking over?
if it doesnt there is a wire off or broken to the starter!

The Starter motor is knackered, if the glow plugs were shot it would still try and start, if the fuel cut off switch was at fault it wouldnt start fulll stop
sounds like at least one of your glow plugs has gone . you only need one to be worn out and the car will never start off the key , it happened to me with my peugeot 306 1.9 td . hope this helps
if your car will turn over with the key but wont start without a tow .change the glow plugs.there are 4 of them, 3 out of 4 are easy to change but the one behind the injection pump is difficult im sure this will cure your problem change 1 at a time then try an start
its drawing in air somewhere - try leak off hose that joins injector to injector.
