Vauxhall vectra 1.6. water in bottle keeps dropping constantly having to fill up. no sign of leaks,no oil in w
Answers:
could be you got a slight leak in the radiator core as the rad is hot it tends to dry out as fast as it leaks out and once the radiator has gone cold and there is no pressure in the system the leak stops, hence you never see the leak. get the system pressure tested. could also be water pump leaking.
check your oil levels if not possibly a gasket or a knackered radiator
Hopefully no water in the oil. You may have a head gasket that is leaking from the water jacket into the cylinder. A reputable shop can do a pressure check to see if your cooling system is leaking and where.
Vectra's are prone to head gasket failure, as my mate found out when it failed on his 2.5 v6 Vectra.
He p/ex'd it for a Hyundai 4x4 thing.
Maybe you have a thirsty tiger in your tank mate. fill the bottle then turn the engine on and see where it leaks.
Have you checked your air conditioning hasn't been accidently put on.
I have the same car. The water must be going somewhere, if the oil level is not going up ,the water must be leaking as vapour. Try a tin of Radweld, and see if that stops it. That can even help if it is the head gasket.(Which I have a nasty suspicion it is).You said no oil in water. But it is water in the oil that you should worry about.
the water can be going straight into the cylinders and bypasing the oil, check for water or signs of water in the exhaust and also grey smoke steem when car is started. Also can cause car to miss first thing in a morning or when it hasnt been started for a while
I had similar in a Peugeot 306,losing water with no apparent signs, like water in oil or overheating for ages until one day it went completely and car overheated and it knackered the head. When i removed the head,i could see where it had been leaking from the head,to the outside of the engine, which is why i had no usual symptoms of a head gasket
if its not leaking from engine, or radiator and the front carpets of the car are dry then the only other place it an go is into the engine and out the exhaust in which case it should be steaming.
