How to repair a motor vehicle with flooded water?
Answers:
You mean ' how to repair a motor vehicle which has been flooded with water?'. Usually water enters the carburettor, air filter and the electrical boxes (all this depends on the specific models though). Water in other parts gets drained on its own or can be cleaned with compressed air. So you have to clean the parts above and try to start the engine. It works well, unless there is too much water entering some other unexpected place. Two wheelers often 'suck' water through the exhaust pipes if you are riding in knee deep water and the engine stops for any reason.Hope this gives some light to your question.
Ask the Japs. Most of the cars they export to us are flood damaged!
i wouldnt try repairing a car with flood water use tools much better ieda
remove
water
from
car
it would cost a few thousand to renovate the vehicle but i would pull the engine first and take it apart and replace all that has water in it. if entire vehicle was submerged i wouldnt even think of repair.sell for parts and junk the rest.new carpet and all the electrical systems have to be replaced and that would cost more than a few thousand. also if it was flood for more than a few days the stench wouldnt be easy to get rid of
It depends.if salt water it is usually not worth it as the salt will eventually corrode everything-body,frame,wiring,e. and there is no sure way to flush it completely away. If it was fresh water flooding and the vehicle was not attempted to be started/run(hydro locked) it is possible to dry out the vehicle, you will have to drain and replace ALL fluids, engine oil, trans, rear end, transfer case(if equipped),change all filters-oil/air,after that you can remove spark plugs and put a little oil in cylinders and crank engine to remove any water that may have gotten in the intake/cylinders. Then you can try starting the engine and hopefully the computers/electronics have not been fried. As for the interior sometimes the upholstery can be dried out and is OK but other times will need to be changed due to mold/mildew. There also may be damage to radio, speakers, etc. In all it is very risky and depends a lot upon how immersed the vehicle was- a foot or two or completely submerged and floated through town makes a big difference as well as time it was subjected to immersion.
After draining and flushing the engine, transmission, and differential they will run. They need all bearings replaced on the axles and u-joints/CV joints will wear if they are not replaced as well. I bought a flood car several years ago and flushed and refilled the engine ,tranny, and differential. I did not change the joints in the axle or drive shaft and they wore very quickly and failed, however, the vehicle ran like a dream. I drove the car for 6 months and sold it to a friend, who also drove the car for a year. He then sold the vehicle to another guy and he completely restored the car and it still runs today. The vehicle was a 1971 Datsun 240z and was well worth the restoration. Hope this helps..good luck !
Hiya
I did the same to my 405 & the insurance wrote it off because the said it would be to expensive to repair and because it was dirty water they couldnt guarantee getting all the nasty bugs out but apart from that the engine would be any good
Hope this helps John
wait until water subsides.
Borrow Scuba gear or phone the undersea section of the AA and tell them your carburettor's flooded and your points are damp.
Firstly, remove car from swimming pool then--
ask your wife how it got there?
