It's your own stupid fault for buying a VAUXHALL . Check your fuses, the one that corresponds to the cooling fan may need replacing.A diagram of what fuse does what should be on the inside cover of the fuse box. Failing that, sell it and buy anything but a vauxhall, they have notorious problems with the electrics, as you're finding out.
The electric fan should come on as soon as the temperature is near or above overheating levels.
There is a way of making it come on, place a short wire/paperclip between two particular pins in the electric fan switch at the thermostat, but it varies from model to model.
Considering the environment is a bit hotter, I would guess check your coolant on a cold start and level road, if its a bit low that could be your answer!
Never fill the coolant with normal water, leads to rust and corrosion use distilled or deionised water!
It will definately eventually overheat without a cooling fan but the best choice would be to get rid of the damn thing.
v6 engines can be prone to overheating, can you hear the fan kicking in?
check the oil and see if theres a white gooy substance, if so your head gasket is on its way out. overheating is a common sign that your gasket is on its way out.
be warned v6 head gaskets are very expensive to replace!
Check the thermostat is working, so the fan kicks in at the right time.
I think the best way to check the fan is to run the engine till its warm and have a look in the engine bay you should be able to see if the fan is working
for more advice about any vauxhall problems I would say contact total vauxhall their know pretty much everything vauxhall opel and holden wise
Connect the fan motor to the battery bypassing the switch.
If the fan motor works, it could be a sender switch fault
Check that the cooling system is clear
5' is nothing to worry about.
If It is the electric fan is the problem then fix it before serious damage done. When the heat in the engine get too high the pistons expand to a point that they seize in the cylinders. If it's not the fuse remove the fan and test the motor with a battery and some cable. If it works the fan is fine. There is a temp sensor on the block acts as a switch to turn the fan on it's a sealed unit so just replace it and see if that works.
If it maintains this temp, not to worry. 5 degrees isn't that much. It could be the gauge or the sensor has changed value a bit.
If it has A/C, the fan should come on when it is operated.
