Looking for advice on how to remove factory stereo out of a honda civic type r 2004 ?

Be careful of the advise above it's not as easy as that!!
Even as a specialist we take at least an hour to complete this job properly. If in doubt go to a audio supplier, it probably cheaper than buying new trims if you break any!

Firstly you will need a 2001 - 2004 Honda fasia trim panel, A honda wiring loom and possibly an aerial adaptor (depending on unit)

First unscrew the gearknob on the centre console. Then careful pull the surround off from around the gearstick. It should be four retainers on each corner (Hint, take time with the top ones as they are prone to snapping) once removed take a 10mm rachet and unscrew the two bolts at the bottom of a pair of gold looking metal frames (the frame holds the unit in) then there are a pair of bolts which hold the unit in from the side on the same frame. Usually you can access this from the opening you've created but it may be easier to remove the side panel on the centre console as well?

Once the bolts are removed the unit should come out with the trim as well. (Be warned, take your time here, if something does not give its a usually another bolt to undo!) you need to unbolt the stereo from the frame and also the trim panel which sorrounds it.

The new stereo can usually be bolted into the same frame as the original stereo (Security 100% because its bolted) but you don't have to do this along as you have the retaining cage that came with the stereo (Easier to change at a later date, i.e when selling the car).

Make sure you check all the connections and that the stereo is working before you do the opposite to put all the parts back.

Hope it helps
Try using a sledge hammer.

remove all the screws and slide it out. you will know if all the screws are out because it will slide easily. don't force it or you may break it! i'm not sure exactly where they all are.start in the middle console and work your way towards your dash. check behind ashtrays, etc. basically seek and find the screws.it's not hard
