Are jaguars really expensive to maintain?
Answers:
Yes, they are very expensive to maintain, also they have had a lot of electrical problems in the past. I wouldn't buy anything before 2000 for sure.
Yeah, especially with the feeding and creating the right climate for them, they're big animals.
If you need Jaguar spare parts or if you have maintenance done at a Jaguar garage, then yes.
Yes they are and from what I have heard lately they are shittly built
Correct me if I am wrong, and I am sure I will be.
Modern Jaguars are basically fords, right? and a lot of them use much of the same gear as is used in the Ford Mondeo, which is quite a ubiquitous vehicle.
That being said, you should be able to have the majority of work done by a Ford garage, and Fords are not the most unreliable and expensive cars. Sure there will be times where you need a Jaguar specialist, but this goes part and parcel with owning any prestige vehicle.
If you can afford a Jaguar, then you should be able to afford the maintenance otherwise buy something else.
Those who can afford Jags usually have enough $$$ that dont care about the cost of maintenance. Therefore, if you have to ask, you cant afford a Jag. Perhaps, you should consider a Kia Sephia or a Toyota Echo.
ford is heavily considering shutting down the jaguar line altogether.
i'd avoid em.
not if you can find a deal with packaged maintenance..
Well I own two Jags--a 97 XK8 and a 97 VDP. Overall the cars are pretty reliable, and have been since a couple of years after Ford took them over and elevated the consistency of build quality, improved the electrics, and what not. Still, when you have to pay for service, particularly service that includes dealer parts, the costs can get pretty high pretty fast. I would say I spend $1,500 to $2,000 per car annually to keep the cars on the road and in good condition (regular services, oil changes, etc.).
Yes. You have to buy special food and a spacious cage. I owned a jaguar AND a chetah at one time. I raced them once on an enclosed track and the chetah won. Which dispells the old saying that "Chetahs never win."
No. in a word. they are mostly ford running gear. they are only expensive if you take it to a jag garage.
Hey neogriff, yes, I have got big hands. any improvement on the bra-comfort front?
Before Ford got hold of them they were reliable and well built. Expensive to run, tyres can be gone in 6000 miles, exhausts 6 months. But this is if you run the car hard especially in wet weather, otherwise 12,000 miles and 12 months.
I have a Jaguar XJ6 which runs a treat.
Possibly a little more expensive to own and run than say a Mondeo, but the feeling you get when driving a Jag is simply amazing, and as for the comfort zone, well need I say more.
They are obviously more expensive to run than many other cars but if you buy an approved used from a Jaguar dealership they often offer free servicing for 2 years (you'd have to visit them at a time when this promotion was on of course - enquire about it)
Jags are very reliable, and the post-2002 s-types are a big improvement on the 1999-2002 ones, which are also good.
My advice is, Go for it! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
