4 wheel drive = No road manners?

Is there any curteous 4 wheel drivers out there? Everyone I come into contact with is rude and aggresive and the bigger the car the less they feel they have to even acknowledge other drivers let alone signal their intentions to them.

Answers:
Seems there is a certain state of mind when one buys an SUV or large pickup. They are looking for invincibility, and a way to shield themselves from their stupid errors and lifestyles of "living large".We are what we drive..the Honda/Toyota buyers are smart, frugal and more than likely "professional",Cavalier buyers are young, cheap, unaware, and easily taken adavantage of.SUV buyers are either soccer moms, small people looking to make themselves look big,or they have that "I want to live forever at the expense of everyone else" mentality.
Its a shame todays SUV buyers have tainted those of yesteryear..the Scout,Bronco,Jeep,Land Rover buyers at one time were commercial users,or farmers/sportsmen.Today its a way to make up for their shortages in life,in general.
4 wheel drivers are rude, ALL WHEEL drive drivers are not!

Audi A4 Quattro RULES!
All the reasonable 4x4 drivers are in the countryside. The idiots who drive them around town are the morons.
4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive, it doesn't matter. Just about anything with 4 wheels are rude.
No sorry. I am a right b.itch in mine. Oh and I give plenty of signals.. especially hand ones.
Most buy these "TONKA TOYS" for one reason only. When I see the driver who is usually a girl looking about 18 years old, her husband, his arm resting out of passenger side window looking for all the world like a driving instructor. One thing comes to mind "PRAT".
Picture it, A beautiful off roader, shining like the mid-day sun and never driven on anything rougher than a side road. Taking the kids to school with their noses in the air, rather than walk half a mile. Then it's to Salisbury's, but God help them when it comes to parking the things.
My next door neighbour has one, but goes on the bus because of the cost of running and parking it. I use his as windbreak and mine's not a small one. (car).
But of course if they are used for the purpose intended, on farms etc, then they are great and usually pretty dirty.
I think I got side tracked, They never have to wave thanks to me for letting them out, along with BMW's, 'cause I don't if I can help it. My only problem with them really is in looking for a way out as they come towards me, I have a fear of being bumped of by one, they are so high compared with the normal family cars. I think it would be better for the rest of us to have Bull Bars not them.
All this this two fingers, I'm going to bed now.
I think the problem is that people who buy 4x4s and live in towns buy them for one reason only. Ok they may say that it's because of the high driving position and the feeling of safety that such a big vehicle gives but really it is all down to status. A big vehicle that has an Oliver Reed like thirst is expensive to buy and expensive to run and tells the rest of the world that you have cash. In fact it doesn't just say it it screems it. This is exactly why they are so popular with the gangster rappers. The bigger and more expensive the car is to run the better off you look. In order to earn enough cash to run one you need to be a very competetive person, a real go getter who doesn't let anyone or anything stand in their way or you need to be the kind of person who is prepared to give up a lot to look well off. Either way they are more likley to be less concerned about others and more focused on their own needs and hence less considerate drivers. People who own them due to either a work or location requirement however do not fall into this catagory. To a farmer a 4x4 is a tool he uses to do his Job. To a Londoner a 4x4 is a status symbol that tells the rest of London 'I am successful'.

This is a generalisation and I'm sure there are some drivers of 'Chelsea tractors' who are considerate so if you are one I appologise.

To anyone who disagrees answer me this. What other reason would you have for buying a car like that? A Range Rover Vogue costs more to service over the first 3 years of ownership than a 6 series BMW, an E class Mercedes, a Jaguar XJ6. It gets worse MPG, is a lot slower, isn't half as nice to drive and is less stable in the event of an crash. The only benefit it has is that it is big and imposing and stands out due to it's size. i.e people notice you. Even a farmer wouldn't buy one. He'd go for a land rover 110 turbo diesel. Even if you needed to tow a horse box you'd get the Discovery Turbo Diesel. The only reason to buy such a car is to show the world how much money you have and I'm afraid the kind of person who wants to do that doesn't care much for those who have less.

Edit: To the last answerer, hey I drive a BMW and I'm about as courtious as it is possible to be. Please don't lump them in with 4x4s, unless of course if your talking about the X5!
Totally Agree. They are very rude and no consideration for other drivers. I have noticed this mainly at the Primary school at the top of my road and as I leave for work, the parents are dropping their kids off and they park both sides of the road leaving barely enough room to fit through and they think they own the roads and even If I have prioty of the road they try to get through and if you let someone through they never say thank you or anything. Very ungrateful and rude drivers!
Some urban 4wd (SUV) drivers choice of vehicle is due to paranoia or lack of confidence, others its a small man thing.
An american study in New York highlighted that many SUV drivers are less confident when driving, felt their driving skills were poor and their choice of vehicle was to make them feel less intimidated on the road.
The small man thing is based on my observation, I have noticed a lot of small men drive large SUVs in urban settings, I guess its the only chance they get in life to look down on other people.
Depends on the person not the vehicle you think people are rude in the uk .in spain where the drivings erratic to say the least if your curteous to anyone they dont acknoledge you so manners do not go far here and yes i have a 4x4 but i live in the sticks no ambulance gets here and when it rains i cant get out in an emergency the mud clings to the wheels.
so i would say 4x4 are ok when there needed not to look good going to school. and there are rude people in ordinary cars as well
I have a 4x4 ford ranger. I admit i didnt buy it because it had 4x4 i just needed a pickup for the work i do and this one happened to have it. I drive very courtiously and the reason i do is because i also ride a motorcycle. It gives you alot of perspective about what people do on the road thats dangerous to others. I always have and always will respect everyone out there especially when i am driving something big.
a lot of 4x4 drivers got caravans. very safe to tow with.were not all rude.
