Why does my car radio regain reception when I am mid-way through the Blackwall tunnel, only on the bend?
Answers:
Radio signals bounce off as well as passing through things,
Consider radio signals as light to get a very, very, rough idea.
Yeah, mine does that too, perhaps there's a metal section conducting the signal into the tunnel at that point ?
it's possible there's a ventilation shaft above the bend?
Perhaps that's the point where straight line travel is clear and the signal is therefore strong enough to be picked up again.
when tunnels are built they are considered where the stress points are likley to be therefore straight tunnels without bends in them rely on the end pressure at both ends of the tunnel i. hundreds of tons in concrete to act as a jack to keep the concrete sections in place on bends in tunnels its diffrent thats were the stress point is so it is made stronger by metal cable that gives it extra endurance as as the tunnels expands thats how you will pick up radio signals it acts like a magnet to signals
There is a booster half way through the tunnel
it could be the tunnel ghost beware!!!
