Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio?

Answers:
Good one.i have another question to add to this. Why do people pick there noses when driving like they are invisible..YUK!
to let your brain concentrate on what you're doing!
lol , i dunno i found this question as smart and stupid as the same time. funny
I suppose just to concentrate better.but that was funny!! That put a smile on my face.thanks x
in case they hear you coming!!
1) Ton concentrate

2) So as not to disturb the neighbours in the street as you are bound to have slowed down and will be more noticeable.
Cos you can only do so much at the same time, the radio is affecting your attention of what you want to do Distracting you, so you turn it down to be able to concentrate. hope this helps Alan C
We often don't realise how much stress we are causing ourselves, and this question helps to understand that.
We can only fully concentrate on one thing at a time, and anything else which interferes with our concentration causes us to perform badly.
Most people drive the car on automatic pilot, without consciously thinking what they are doing, so the radio doesn't interfere with their concentration. However, when the workload increases, like looking for an address as well as driving, then we need our full powers of concentration, so we reduce interferences, of which the radio is one.
Try counting from one to a hundred while driving - whenever we come across something requiring extra attention, we forget to count, and forget where we got to.
You are subconsciously taking in whats on the radio even though you are not really listening to whats coming out of your speakers (same principle of subliminal self help tapes etc). Your brain requires to focus when concentrating, therefore you turn down the volume without realising why you're doing it.
I expect you need to concentrate on the task at hand…without distractions.fair enough.but it does rather makes me doubt that women are quite as good at multi tasking as they keep telling us:)
