Why can't "Run-Flat" tyres have punctures repaired?

Answers:
My hubby says its because they are a tyre inside a tyre
it's the way there made and they make you spend more money.

Have you been told you can;t put ant other tyre type on the same wheel
They can be repaired if the puncture in in the middle of the tread pattern. No tire/tyre can be repaired safely if the puncture in in the sidewall or shoulder of the tire. The strength is on the sidewall and if there is a blemish, the stability is lost.

Some run-flats will have a pressure monitor on the rim. If so, be care full when removing the tire. This is why many shops will not fix the tire. They don't want to take a chance to brake that sensor.

Hope this helps.
Errrrrr no you`ve lost me!!!
If they are repaired they lose their run flat capabilities, it is (or used to be ) a sort of gel inside the tyre which would have to be removed for tyres to be repaired.

Chuck A, sorry mate but you are wrong. Some sidewall repairs and ones close to edge of tread CAN be repaired. They have a special patch which is heated on and once done properly this is the strongest part of the tyre. It`s called Vulcanising, I worked for a company for about 4 years who specialised in this. Not many companies who do it but it is possible and it is legal dependant on size/position of repair.
Because they have little air-cells in the road face.

To do a repair, the object is removed and a hole drilled through to ensure it is the correct size the the repair.

The inside area of the tyre is cleaned and scrubbed and an adhesive is applied.

The patch, which is a small rubber tube and pad is inserted through the hold from the inside. The pad is then rubbed on with a roller to ensure a good seal. After a few moments, the excess tube is snipped off and you have an air-tight seal.
