Y do french lorries have different registrations on their trailers to there units & is it legal?

Answers:
yes it is legal both trailers and the tractor unit have to be registered and DOE mot tested in there own right DOE stands for Department of the Envoirment under EEC rules and regs
This is because both the trucks & trailers have to be registered. There is a record kept of each trailers owner, just like on our cars & trucks.
BECAUSE THEIR FRENCH
Of course it is legal. Since the trailers are made to be removable from the prime movers they have to have different registration. Otherwise the prime mover would always have to be used with the same trailer and that would not be economic.
