Y do people say distances as the crow flies when you can only get there by car?

Answers:
You could walk
They are sayin if you were to take a map and go from point A to point B in a staight line.
Meaning no curves and turns which is of coarse longer.
I think the term pre-dates cars.

Crows were observed to usually fly in straight lines.
It is just to give you a time/distance reference. If I say it is only a mile away, "as the crow flies" you know that it won't take long to get there by car and that it is a short distance.
i think it goes back to the time before transport it was quicker to walk the way the crows fly
they say that because a crow flies straight from point A to point B
Crows supposedly fly in straight lines from one point to another. It is not always possible to do so by car. "as the crow flies" refers to the length of a straight line between two points.
its like shoot the crow, And up the legs of her drawers and does ur grannie ride a bike with her feet on the handlebars
