How long should it take a mechanic to change a Cam belt on a 96 Celica GT?

Thanks

Answers:
Probably no more than an hour - it's not that difficult a job but they probably will charge the Earth
Can take a couple of hours if there are problems
they should change the pulleys at the same time, 3 hours max
Not sure how it's put in on that engine, but I've done a corolla and prizm before, and there were a few things that had to come off before I could get at everything. Had to disconnect top motor mount too.
1 day
About half an hour, Jimmy, if he/she knows what they are doing, and has the correct tools to hand.
There are 3 engines for that car, is it a 5FSE, a 3SGTE, or a 7FSE?
This generally would be different with location, ie: emmission standards, and other criteria a Toyota must meet to be sold in certain countrys.

I will assume it is a 5FSE, and not a turbo.
www.ricksrepair.ca is my website, my software calls for between 2.9 and 3.9 hours.
It can vary depending on rusted, broken bolts or allot of aother things,
If it is the second time around for a belt I would also replace the cam seals and crank seals, belt tensioner, idler bearing, along with the water pump, which is driven by the cam belt, to avoid "other" problems down the road which would almost always be blamed on the mechanic.
1 hour extra labor is acceptable.

It is not an interference engine like a Honda Civic or Accord, if the belt actually breaks, the car will quit, but no head damage can occur.

You have to take into account the knowledge a mechanic must have to actually do this job in a less time, I worked flat rate for a Toyota dealer for over 10 years, and yes, I could do the job in 1 hour, but only because I have done so many of them, educated myself, and purchased better tools and do that particular job, I can more than justify charging my customer the alloted time preset by the manufacturer.

I hope this helps answer you question, if so, please respond, as this is the first time using YAHOO questions.

Drop it off at the mechanic's place in the morning, should be ready by the time you knock off for the day (as long as you've booked it in, that is).

By the way, don't use the mechanic I last used - changed the belt (alledgedly) way before the recommended mileage, only for it to snap about 6 months later, knackered 12 of the 16 valves. Took him 3 weeks to sort out, and even then, he didn't change the valve guide seals, so the engine smoked liked my nan when it was started up.
depends on the modle & if it pas
but
with pas 2 hrs with out 1.8 hrs
