How can I remove a driver side interior door panel from a 1997 Ford Fiesta?

My lock has stopped working and wont let me use the key to open the door. I can open it from the inside only. I need to take off the panel to see what's wrong with the lock.

Answers:
first U need to remove the arm rest, door pocket, and window winder.

all three just unscrew, there should be 2 bolts on the arm rest, unscrew it from underneath. the door pocket, has screws around the edge of it.

to remove the window winder U need to remove the center cap to get access to the screw, there may be a screw on the door latch unscrew that too, the door card should then just pull off, be careful of the speaker wires
there shud be a few screws holdin it in place around the bottom ov the door care an around the handle take these out an slowly work it free wiv a screw driver it will be stuck wiv sum glue but they come off easy enuff
use a chainsaw it`s only acrappy fiesta

They sell a tool just for that purpose. I throw away the plastic clips that hold the panel to the door and buy new ones so I use a screw driver or any other flat tool that will release the fasteners. The fasteners are sort of like the barbs of a hook, if you bend them back they will not hold again, so I just buy new and don't worry about the panel coming loose again. A store like Auto Zone or NAPA will have the tool. They should also have the fasteners.
Take off the door trim panel as stated in other awnsers, but normally if you find the key will lock the door but wont open it the the locking barrel or key is worn, you will then need a new barrel which can be obtained from a Ford dealer, take along your key and ask them to make up a new barrel to match the key, the barrel is held in with a clip and can be removed form inside the door.

does the key turn? if so then the linkage is disconnected, if it doesn't turn and the key works in the other doors, then the lock itself is bad and probably will need to be replaced, try to spray some silicone into the lock first ( make sure your can of silicone spray has that plastic straw-like thing on the can) and work the key back in forth before you pull off the door panel, if you must pull off the door panel, there might be a clip behind the window crank holding it on, a special tool is used to remove it, but it can be done with a screw driver and a few cuss words, call the ford dealer and ask them if they have a new lock and can it be changed to work with your key?
see item #2, pdf file, page 9 http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=na.
undo the screw in the handle, one in the cover over the door mirror, one in the door release lever, one in the storage pocket right by the speaker these maybe covered with plastic caps.
possibly 2 screws either side of the panel on the edges and 2 little black bungs at very bottom of panel where it goes under door.
remove cover from door release, remove window winder if it has one (small clip behind winder you can push out with screwdriver) grab panel at the bottom and pull it, should come off then.
its a ford fiesta its starting to develop carachter
get used to it
