Can a Mercedes C-Class (manufactured 2002) CDI run on bio-diesel without conversion?
Answers:
I wouldn't have thought you need a conversion to run a modern diesel car on biodiesel. They already sell a 20% (I think) mix on the forecourt in Germany. It's if you want to use SVO (straight vegetable oil) that you need a second tank as the oil can be too thick for the injectors when the engine's cold.
You might want to think about carrying spare oil filters though as they do become clogged quicker with biodiesel.
I had heard from somewhere that biodiesel rots rubber parts and you need to change the hoses. but that doesnt sound right because willie nelson sells it at his stations now and other sources say you just pour it in the tank.Where ever you intend to buy it would be able to tell you for certain.
Mercs have a very complicated engine management system and believe it or not the diesels are more complicated than the petrols!
If your going to try this speak to them first as they will be able to tell you if your car is compatible.
A good idea if you do is to HALF fill your tank with ordinary diesel then top up with bio so as to mix it then the car will not suffer as much but be carefull if it isn't compatible it will destroy your engine and will cost copius amounts to fix!
