The top varish on my cars paintwork is flaking. How to I deal with it and cause no more damage.?

Yea..pauls right.you need to drop it round to local paintshop & they will give it a bit of a sand down & then lacquer straight on top again. shouldn't cost too much though..

Its impossible to stop it because water has penetrated the clear lacquer finish.
The only options are to live with it or a total respray.
If your car in still under warranty the dealership will fix this as it happens often. If not for the time being use clear nail polish to keep it from peeling farther. You will eventually need to have it resealed at a local paint shop.

If you really like the car and plan on having it for along time I would get it repainted. That way you will have the same tone all over the car.
Most of the answers are right. Think of it as the clear nail polish that goes over colored manicure!
Best advice is to have a paint shop sand down the paint completely, and just get the car repainted PLUS a layer (at least one coat) of clear coat. Then have them wet sand + buff the car a week after the paint job. This will make it look brand new again.
