Ford KA Stiff Steering.?
Answers:
As you say it hasn't got power steering so this is out off the window.
It sounds like a problem with either the steering rack itself or maybee a stiff bottom or top ball joint or track rod end.The only way to find out is to disconnect the track rod ends(this is the joint at the end of youre steering rack)see if the steering is still heavy ,if so the rack is faulty! If not then try turning the wheels by hand with the car jacked up. Turn the wheels left and right one will be harder than the other to turn (you have to disconnect the track rod ends to do this). When you find which one it is replace top and bottom ball joints and this will solve the problem !
What are you doing in that car to make the steering stiff??
check the universal joints in the steering column. A simple greasing may solve the problem. However you may want to consider replacing the defective one (usually the one nearest
the steering bar inside engine near the firewall) as the wear would become worse and worse!
Also if it's not that it could be the suspension bushings they wear an need replacing every now and again. If there is like a rubbing sound then I'd say it was almost definetly the bushings.
Get it serviced now before you kill someone.
Take it to a ford dealership.
The steering on a ford ka is always stiff but you should not have to force it.
