Answers:
lead used to be added
No, its the other way round, lead used to be added as a lubricant, now they dont use lead they use polymers.
it was not there in the first place,it was added
it doesn't get taken out its not added in the first place
i thought it was used to make pencils
the lead is added to leaded petrol so there is no question of lead being removed and disposed of somewhere
It was never there Tetra Ethel lead was added to petrol to help lubricate valve stems and seats.Hope this helps Mick.
It's all there in the word.
UNleaded, not DEleaded.
They simply don't put the lead in to start with
Lead was added to gas to increase the octane. They then did not have to refine the gas as much. It was never needed, and is quite amazing how long it took them to remove lead when it was found to be very bad for anything that breaths.
The reason lead was introduced to petrol was to stop the valve seats burning as unleaded petrol burns much hotter. If you search on yahoo about unleaded petrol you will find that leaded petrol helps lubricate your engine leaving a deposit of lead within the engine. If you use unleaded petrol in a leaded petrol engine without resetting the timing and having hardened valve seats it burns them out very fast,Some older engines cant even run on unleaded petrol due to its design.
