Why don't they make Filler Nozzle Shapes & Colours Correlate so that you can't mix Diesel, Petrol and others?

Answers:
They do that here in the states.
This is why they're colour coded!!
black pipes diesel
green pipes petrol
diesel outlet pipe nozle bigger in diameter than petroll
they do
well they do i work for shell oil and ours are red for reg- yellow for plus - black for super -however this is an old station the new ones every grade comes out of one nozzle you must push a button for the grade you prefer
I have thought about that for years. I lent my diesel to my daughter while away in Spain, and you guessed it, she put petrol in the tank. Cost an arm & a leg to have it towed , emptied out, and refilled with diesel.
On the subject of color coding, I'm surprized that manufacturers havn't come up with a color code for shampoo and one for conditioner.
In the shower I frequently make a mistake and wonder why there are no suds.
they do as some one has already pointed out they have different colours and different size nozzles
They do.

Black hoses / handles - DIESEL
Green hoses / handles - UNLEADED
Red hoses / handles - LEAD REPLACEMENT

also the UNLEADED nozzle and the hole in your car filler is SMALLER than the diesel one - so you can't 'normally' fully insert a diesel pump into an unleaded.
why don't you just learn to read,,petrol or diesel,,hhmmmmmmmmm,,tricky choice
most modern petrol's have a narrow filler pipe so that you cant put the diesel pump in them. not sure about the other way around
they do, most petrol staions have thicker diesal nozzles than unleaded one which designed so you do not put diesal into a petrol engines tank although the otehr way round the unleaded nozzle will fit in a diesal tank, i have seen it many a time mianly women ( i am only being honest not sexist ) trying for ages to get a diesal nozzle to fit a petrol engined cars tank and when i tell them there error and that i have most probably saved them a new engine they look very sheepish and embarrassed.
any way the black handled pump is diesal, the green one is unleaded but there are two green , 95 octane of which most cars run on, and super which is 98 octane so check out what your car takes.
