With air traffic increasing isn't it time other transport was used as well?

I mean can airports cope? Londons 4 airports seem to be ever expanding and heathrow is in chaos with only 45 seconds it between take offs and landings. surely other transport needs to be used to supplement our insatiable appetite for travel.

Trans atlantic flights and western european flights are a prime of example where boats can be used. they should develop some new technology for fast luxury boats, like the infamous titanic was hinting at, which of course is an accident that would unlikely hapen today! sailing is cool man.

Answers:
The problem with airport over crowding has to do with the hub and spoke model there are literally tens of thousands of under utilized airports around the world with the advent of small fuel efficient jets known as VLJ's or very light jets the future could see an air taxi industry develop providing point to point service between small town airports avoiding the mess at large city airports
