Is it possible to replace the petrol engine in my freelander with a diesel engine?
Answers:
Well, if you really want to do this, it'll be more than just the engine. Will have to replace the whole fuel system, and add things to help for the diesel. Also, will have to change the computer, and the harness to the engine, and any other harnesses that will only work for the diesel. Then you have to have a diesel engine(of course), then you'd have to upgrade the front suspension, as them engines are much heavier than a petrol engine. These are some of the basics you'd need.Let alone, a manual, and wiring diagram, and then you need to know how to fix a diesel, if and when it breaks down. Good luck.
Why not just change the freelander, they suck.
well, since you've said it, the freelander is the same.
but you can't burn reg gas in a diesel engine.
Yes you can.
"Not easy."

It's possible if you want to change all the electronics, the transmission, fuel lines, fuel pump and fuel filter. It's probabally cheaper to buy an another car.
Yes, but do not do it!!
Try a good garage and see if you cannot replace it with a liquid propane engine.
It will at least halve your fuel bill and is so much more green.
LPG is the way ahead at the moment.
It would serve no purpose because you would have to then change all fuel line components, a new tranny (added tourqe), and new gauges (rpm differences). Just go to the junk yard and save your money
yes it is,,its a lot of changing over,,but it can be done,i have done it before,,i own a repair shop,,in Tennessee, and i have a customer who wanted one changed,,he has spent enough money on it to buy a new one,,but he likes it the way it is now,,and he says it was worth it,,but yes it can be done,,if you got enough money,,it isn't cheap though,,be prepared to spend a lot on it,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.
its possible that i built your driveshaft do's it still work lol
a decent engineer can put in any engine you want, some would be easier than others, land rover will tell you the most compatible engine to fit.
At this stage in the freelanders life it is time to save some money and do an insurance job!
yes it is and i highly sugest u not to because the freelander isnt worth the new or used deisel engin so just buy a new car or a used one
Yes Its quite easy.
if they make a diesel for that model yes you may have to change a few other things and some modifying
Anythings possible ..but. It would be a whole lot easier if you just sold it and bought a diesel. You not only would have to replace the engine but the transmission, fuel tank, battery, computer and possible a few dozen other things .I thought about it one time too but it would be just too much work when you can buy a diesel already built
