Car head units?
Answers:
I would say yes if you do not wish to pay through the nose for a head unit.
I would say that most sound-off competitions are won with systems running an alpine head unit, probably with little or no internal amplification.
Not enough room inside a head unit to have an amp to give good enough sound to win these competitions.
Let the amps with their greater internal space for ciruitry do the amplification and then you will loose less sound quality.
Why do you think the best home steroes are seperates ??
Several years back Alpine was considered the best head unit out there. Now there is a lot more competition, but I believe Alpine is still one of the best.
Head units are a matter of taste, you must judge options and overall performance for you to decide on the "best" head unit.
check out Elcipse audio also.
i prefer Alpine.
you could also look at Pioneer Premier or Nakamichi
Hello you are spending a fortune to fill and over-sized bean can on wheels with music! this is NOT HiFi this is showing off and wasting money. there is something about the point of diminishing rewards at which point the improvement is not worth the money and spending £3,000 for a car audio in a £3,000 ford has gone beyond it!!
I PREFER PIONEER, THEY HAVE AWSOME SOUND QUALITY. AND YOU CAN FIND THEM FOR A GOOD PRICE AS WELL.
I researched for some time to get a head unit and a boot-mounted cd changer. I needed both to play MP3 and CDRW and I wanted good sound quality. After comparing prices/specs with people's opinions I settled on Alpine. I've had them for a year or so now and I'm glad I got them. Having said that, Kenwood came close with specs/quality but I prefered the Alpine design considerably. My head unit is the CDA-9853R and the changer is the CHA634S (I think that's the right model number). With some decent rear speakers you should be able to get a good system in there for around 5 or 600 pounds (maybe less if prices have dropped) or maybe worth looking at a DVD head unit.
