The MG Maestro has got to be the best MG ever - True or hgjfhu?

Answers:
Grossly under-rated for sure. 1600 was great, 2.0 EFi had more torque than a Range Rover and the Turbo was scary, faster than most Ferrari's and certainly MUCH faster than ALL rivals. Shame they didn't attract acclaim and died out, but then so did their competition.

Marketed originally to compete with Ford, Peugeot and V.W. 'hot-hatches', was cheapest to insure (by far) and cheap to keep on road (in comparison to others).

Montego was just a Maestro with a boot, so one and the same car. Metro just felt fast and I've had Lorries more sporty than the earlier ones. Newer ones good, but Maestro started it all, and was grossly under-rated for sure!
yes, for my wife.no very manly though.
I loved my MG Montego, talking car with digital display. Years ahead of its time
untrue, the 260bhp v8 mg zt-t based on the rover 75 is the best mass produced vehicle, with the 385bhp 5.0l v8 mg xpower sv being the ultimate mg.
No way the best MG of that era, it has to be the MG Metro Turbo or even the MG Metro
It's not a real MG. Real MGs were built in England by or for a company called Morris Garages based on engines from the Morris car company and later by British Leyland. Probably the best all-round sports car they built was the MG B with chrome bumpers. Light, fast, handled reasonably well and you could fix them almost blindfolded. Best in British Racing Green.
What does hgjfhu mean in plain english?
I'm wary of all MGs. My friends father owned two over the course of a decade - both spontaneously caught fire while idling in his driveway. They are wired very poorly.
no the montigo was better all round car

I hope this helps.
the 1600 or the Turbo. 2.0EFI was neither here nor there, 1600 had real plain old fashioned guts, and the Turbo was like sharing your bath with a fan heater, which is great!!
I can't believe that you are talking about the maestro as an MG. It was a poorly made Austin that used MG badging and it had the annoying computer that wouldn't shut up! My mum owned an Austin Maestro and it was appalling.

MG is a marque of quality motoring from a tradition of quality british engineering that has sadly passed and does not deserve to be talked about in the same light as dodgy Austin boxes from the eighties.
