DVLA have my registration documents for change of address but car tax is due, what do I do?

You should have been sent a reminder notice which you can use instead of your registration , failing that you can tax your car at your nearest area office , the address should be in the phone book

You can get your tax online without having any of the documents. All you need is your reg number.
Fill out the V10 form in the post office, or alternatively pay for you or tax online at

Tax always runs from the end of the month, so either it is already late, or you have about 4 weeks to go. If it's already late, then you can take a chance and put "tax applied for" on the windscreen so you don't get towed, the police usually give you a couple of weeks grace if you get pulled over. So long as you have insurance and the last MOT (which would have been digitally stored) you can do your road tax online and have your disc in no time.
lynn r technically the police are not obliged to alloy you any extra days so i suggest its not worth taking the risk and buy the tax when its due! if you do take the risk of sticky a sign saying its in the post lest hope you dont get a coppa who has a naff day!
If you have your reminder for the tax which would of been posted to your old address then you dont need your reg doc as this form has all your details. Failing that go to the post office and declare your car off the road untill you can tax the car and dont use your car untill you have the new tax disc in place. If your car is not taxed then your insurance and mot are invaild and not worth the paper they are printed on.
