What do the solid WHITE lines at the sides of the road mean ?
Answers:
They are fog lines. In foggy conditions you are able to at least see the edge of the road. The paint used is shiney. If you can't see them then it is too foggy to be driving.
You're not supposed to cross over them. Anytime the line is solid means you should not cross it.
marks the edge of the road, usually means do not cross
It means it is the edge of the road and if you cross it you'll be on the shoulder, if there is one.
it means you shouldnt be driving. Get out of the car NOW!
It's for the drunks to keep them on the road.
Most of the time they are used in areas for airplanes to clock your speed between the lines known as "vascar". It is very rare that this is still in use as it is very expensive to run this type of operation.
marks the edge of the road so as night its visable so u know where the end of the road is.
That there is the END of the road and that you should not crosse them.
Adding to all that is said already, the white lines help you to be with in the road space, especially at night and if you are driving at high speeds for you to see where you are going. Apart from legal compliance it is meant for your safety.
They are the boundaries of the road, to let you know where the pavement ends. They are a more recent invention which I find helps, especially when driving at night.
ANY solid white line means do not cross.
At night, and especially in rain, it's difficult to see where the edge of the roadway is, so without that white line to guide you, you could sideswipe a car parked or stalled on the shoulder.
everyones WRONG! those lines are used for the police when they pull you over.they need a solid line to give sobriety tests on.and it marks the shoulder but sobriety test are so much cooler
As a truck driver, we called it the fog line. When it is foggy, you can see that thru the thickest fog. That will tell you where you are. As long as it is on your right side.you are NOT over the centerline!
Take it as the boarder of the road shoulder.
Edge of road
Do not cross
No parking
No stopping
do not cross over
