VW Golf mk.4 Intermitent knocking sound from passenger front on uneven road surface.?

I have checked the obvious eg. Suspension joints, wheel bearings etc.. Can be heard inside car and VERY annoying!! Can anybody help?

Answers:
I know this sound a bit far fetched, but have a look at the upper door hinges, and then give them a drop of gear oil not grease, I've had two Golfs and a Fiesta do exactly the same thing.

The other possibility as its on the passenger side is that the stru damper unit is starting to fail, this is inside the strut itself and cannot be checked without dismantling it.

Its not an MOT failure all the while the dampers are still doing their job, just annoying.

Its worth a try
My adivce? Scrap it!
COULD BE A DODGY CV JOINT, OR MABEY A LACK OF GREASE.. REALLY HARD TO TELL..
I'm having the exact same problem.

It could be the anti-roll bars (in this case the one on the passenger side). Either a loose/broken) linkage, or you need to replace the 'bush'.

That's what is wrong with mine anyway.
Strut top bearing, broken road spring, poor body welding, internal strut defect?

Sometimes its hard to check ball joints properly and its worth checking the correct method for your vehicle.
I used to work for VW and so heard of some of the problems with the Mk 4, one person complained about a similar noise and it turned out it was the electric window mechanism. Not sure if this helps but there were a lot of faults with them which can be rectified by your nearest dealer if it is indeed a manufacturing error.
most likely be anti rollbar links, common problem on alot of makes!!
buy a new car!
It could be several things but if it seems to be from outside the car its possibly the shockabsorber or antirollbar bushes, shockabsorber mounting bushes top or bottom, any of these can create a knocking sound but you need to see a mechanic as it may cause handling problems and reduce your braking efficiency if its worn shocks!
sounds like a strut
Replace the anti-roll bar bushes & the drop links. All mk 4 golfs are the same.
a common fault on the mk 4 golf's is front anti row bar d bushes these are the ones that hold the centre of the bar to the chissis you will find that you will probably need to replace the u shape brackets that hold the bushes in place by 1 bolt.
try roll bar drop links, check them with the wheels on the ground and see if you have any play when trying to move them up and down
