VW GOLF- sporty, cute, and great gas mileage compared to the Ford Fiesta. I have also personally had much better luck with VWs as opposed to Fords (which tended to rust and leak oil, for me anyways).
The golf is the lesser of two evils. Why are you so limited in your choice. There are other similar good cars available. Skoda are well worth a look these days.
If you are looking to beat the hell out of it and run over curbs go for the fiesta, The golf would definatly be a better pic as far as looks but it all depends on mileage of the two vehicles and condition. There are ways to tell if someone has taken car of their car.
NEVER BUY A FORD! Nobody I know has had luck with either. Your beter off with a Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Oldsmobile, Cadilac ect. Stick with GM! You should look into a Cobalt ss.
Depending on the years, an older golf over a fiesta, but a fiesta over anthing newer thatn 89. Older golfs are cheaper to fix than the new ones. Fiestas are pretty dope little cars, great milage, and cheap parts. So if its an old golf, then that would be my choice, but if not go with the fiesta.
Golf is a better car all round and nicer to look at.

First off, i would go for neither. The japanese alternatives will be more reliable (unless its a golf TDi).
of those two, its the golf hands down. I wouldnt touch an american car between the years of 73 and about 99 outside of a very select few cars. The fiestas are just horrid.
and just a note: I have a large amount of experiance with VWs, as i drive a 97 golf GTi, sis drives a bug, and am an active member on a few VW boards.

id have 2 say the golf every time! fiestas arent as reliable and are prone to rusting, the build quality on the golfs are far better! you need to take into account which model to go for tho..id go for a mark three golf cos they are cheap on insurance, nicely priced and still look quite modern!

golfs tend to hold their value better than fiestas, but that also means they are gonna be more expensive to buy!
the fiesta will probably be a little bit cheaper for parts but the golf will be more reliable.
as far as looks go, the golf is the better looking in my opinion.
