How bright is a headlight bulb on a Jumbo 747?
Answers:
One of the best landing lights for large jets the General Electric Q4559X which produces about 770,000 candlepower from 600Watts and has a life of about 200 hours (check the link below for bulb specs).
What's that mean? Some of the modern 35-50W HID lamps they are putting in cars can provide about 500,000 candlepower.
The Space Shuttle uses a 750 million candlepower HID landing light (check the NASA link below).
It's really,really bright!
bloody bright enough mate!
Very
Headlights on a 747 are you sure?
Well lets look at it in this point of view. The LANDING LIGHTS are to be turned on (manditory) during take off and again when decending through 15,000ft. Now, also, when the plane is about 4 minutes from the airport (air time) the tower can clearly see them (if there aren't any low dense cloud). So they are stronger than your flashlight and car headilghts abut not as strong as Sun.
Brighter than me.
