Why is a taxi always called a taxi in any language?
Answers:
So that anyone can hail one no matter where they are or what the native language..airport is another..hotel yet another!
It's something everyone might need wherever you are! Easy to find then!
too bad the world couldn't get together on other matters as easily as they have settled this one.
For the same reason everyone understands hello
Universal word,
similarly Hotel is as well.
Often spoken by a stranger having come out of a railway station,
"Taxi! Hotel please."
becuase when people invented taxis the country it was in called it taxi
then they phoned up someone in a different country and said we've got this new thing called a taxi
Isn't the German for airport - Flugenhafen (or something quite close!)? So that one shouldn't be in the list I don't think? And hotel is 'pension' in French I think - oh hang on, wait (whilst brain ticks over slowly!) no I think that is the French for B & B! Sorry!
In Scots Gaelic it's a Tacsi. (AFAIR same in Irish & Welsh)
Same answer as to why is a restaurant always called a restaurant.
