How much for apeugot 406 timing belt?uk?
Answers:
If petrol 16v then just a belt change will be about 160+vat.But if higher mileage then belt kit needed, approx extra £85.if belt idlers not changed & 1 fails(grease in them has finite life)then look at a bill at around a 1000.Worth shopping around but ask for prices belt change & belt/tensioners as some give first price which is cheaper to get you in the door stip the belt off then tell you the real price & hand you the vasellene.
Fitted and all two years ago in the dealership £125 so allowing for inflation I would have thought about £180 max !
Quoted the same kind of figure about 6 months ago. They are madly expensive.
The belt will cost about £40
Its the fitting that will cost the most plus VAT on top. Especially if its done by a Peugoet stealership.
Best shop around.
Try some smaller garages as its not that hard a job to do they should get the price down.
The belt is probably around £15-20.
Haynes Manual £15.
Set of spanners £50 (tho' you can probably do it for £10).
Probably take you an afternoon.
How much do you value your time?
Saw in the paper that Mechanics in London average £150/hr.
If you're in that area and the car will make it, it's worth taking a weekend holiday to find a mechanic. Scotland is cheapest. ;)
About £30 for the belt.
£145 for labour.
£650 if you smashed your valves and head to bits.
Even if your valves are OK they will tell you they're not and you need a head skim, new valves and gaskets.
Bet you wish you hadn't asked
Perhaps i should explain.
If your valves were open (down)when the belt went, the pistons would still have come up and beat the cr*p out of them
£300.00 does seem a bit priceyif its petrol and not too bad for diesel. Seems dear but now where near as expensive than if you don't get it done and the damn thing breaks. Will probably wreck the valves and cost more like £900.00 plus. Not so much now
Happy Motoring and don't bust a belt
