What does this symbol in my dashboard mean?

the symbol is like a picture of an engine with what looks like the letter K in the middle. It is orange when lit up and shows for a couple of seconds after starting the engine. For Pegueot 106 R reg 1998. Sorry no handbook

Answers:
this is the engine management light. and if this light stays on, then you have a fuel injection fault. if it comes on when you start the engine and goes out, then nothing is wrong with you engine.
it means your car is about to blow up..run.. sorry, i dont have a clue!
I don't know much about Pegueots but often times lights like these will light up when the car is started to let you know that the bulb is working. If it turns off shortly after starting the car, I would ignore it. Usually the picture of an engine would mean that you are having engine troubles and should have it looked at if the light stays lit.
Probably to do with the engine management system, it would stay on if there was a fault. Sometimes cars have similar symbols which come on or flash when it's time for a service. It comes on when you turn the ignition on to show you the light works, and the system is "checking" itself. Don't know what the K means.
is it petrol or diesel
Yeah, and its doing it every time right.

Don't worry, my Ford does that to,
its a system check.

The symbol like a picture of an engine on your Peugeot dash-
board is a warning light in red or orange colour and it appears
for a few seconds when you start your engine and then dis-
appears again.
It shows that the car's engine is normal and you can proceed
to drive it away. However, should the warning light be still on
after you have started and run the engine for sometime, then
it's a warning sign that says something is wrong with the
engine, like leaking or very little lubricating oil in the engine.
You should immediately stop the engine from running, lest
the pistons, valves etc. would be affected (damage).
Alternatively, the warning light for the engine is faulty and
it doesn't cut off even after the engine is running. Then this is
a harmless sign. In any case, quickly have your Peugeot car
checked with a good mechanic to rectify the fault.
You can buy a handbook on eBay from 99p, might be worth a look, I would find a Haynes manual in Hal fords and find out what the symbol means, it may relate to the catalyst.
as long as it goes out this is nomal the ecu is just doing its checks
if it stays on then you have to take it to a dealer as ther may be a senser gone in the engine
It means your engine management ecu has recorded a fault. You need to have a diagnostic tool to read the fault code.Regards Mick.
