Where can I buy fat tyres.?
Answers:
at a fat tyre shop
Get a bike with suspension on the forks and a sprung saddle first.
Go to a specialist bike shop and ask.
By specialist I DON'T mean Halfords!
tellem hannie!!
go to the cycle shop and tell them you want to put mountain bike tyres on and see if they will fit.
It's VERY likely that they will.
BEWARE: they will make the bike heavier and harder to cycle, so if you're unsure, maybe you'd just like to buy a wheelchair and hire someone to push it for you instead?
Your Pete has the right idea, the tyres have nothing to do with the ride. The fatter the tyre, the more tyre on the surface of the road, the more drag it will lay on the road and the more effort will be required to turn the pedals.
What you need is a bike with 'monocoque' or monoshock trailing link suspension (ie. the back part of the bike frame is separate from the front) and joined by a small suspension unit and a swivel, usually mounted behind the pedal crank. Front suspension on the forks and a decent jello saddle with a sprung loaded base.
Such bike specs can be picked up on e-bay from between £100 and £200 or any good bike shop local to you. Fat tyres will achieve nothing, especially if you run them at the correct pressure. Modern inner-tubes will allow bike tyres to exceed 50psi making them rock hard anyway, however fat (wide) they are. Go for a high spec fully suspended bike.
Another tip would be to get your leg to hip measurement taken as the correct frame size and saddle height in relation to the pedal crank is also of paramount importance. Hope that helps?
