Where can i get insurance so that if my engine gearbox etc needs replacing it is insured for it?

That's a warranty not insurance.
Go to a manufacturers dealership and ask about extended warranty plans.
i've never heard of one, i don't think U will get one, as insurance companies don't insure wear and tear, and that would count as wear and tear.

Generally speaking, you can't. With a new car you can buy an extended warranty, but they are expensive for the most part, and only cover certain things.
For example, I got the extended on a Mercury Sable. When the transmission failed, I took it in knowing it would be covered. They did not cover flushing the metal shavings out of the lines. They did not cover new fluid. They didn't cover new filters. Turned out all they did cover was repair and removal of the tranny.
When I had my garage one of the car lots that i did work for sold this kind of insurance/warranty, so you should still be able to get it through one of your local used car lots.
The AA do a parts and labour cover! Obviously there are limitations on it, just depends what your looking for. Take a look on there website AA.com
