How long have you got to put in a claim against another driver after an accident on the road?

Answers:
I am not sure, I have had a situation where the person tried to not pay, just be persistant and timely. If it has been awhile, go ahead and try. It may pay off.
Not a long time if you're dead
i think you have up to 3 years but dont quote me on this
you have one year.
72 hrs.
About 1 hour although it was a waste of time. there was bad ice on the road and when i pulled up [slowly] the driver behind skidded into the back of me. He said his abs brake light was on and working so tried to get out of it. My insurance didn't want to know and said, it was an act of God, how stupid is that. Needless to say I'm now with another company, but they are all the same with claims.
I was in an accident and a bout 1 year 2 months later I turned the accident into the insurance. They paid me my money gave me rental and all was good.
I was involved in a minor accident and reported this as per normal to police and my insurer. Although it was not my fault, my insurance company told me that the other party could make a claim against me anytime up to 3 years.
Normally 36 months, however, you are required to report any accidents to your own company ASAP.
Keep in mind that all companies are different. So everyone knows this is a scam I've seen played alot. Please note, Your in an accident the driver at fault beggs you not to file a claim they'll pay for damages. They'll stall you, they'll send you to get an estimate, then they'll stall and say, you know I have a guy (note someones "guy" is always a bad thing), then they want you to take it to their guy. Before you know it weeks even months have past by; you finally say that's it; then they tell you, well it's too late to file a claim with my insurance so screw you. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, either way always use your insurance or theirs. DON"T BE PLAYED!
I would report it to the insurance company asap
There's no set time, however, the longer you wait, the harder it is to prove that any damages are caused by the other party.

It's common to wait a week or so, but if you want more than a few months, the insurance companies are going to give you a hard time.
a.s.a.p. as far as insurers are concerned and if you want to keep as good a record as possible, but if you bring a claim against someone in a civil court i think it's 3 years, not 100% sure though and it does depend on circumstances i.e.which country you're in!
