Has a 2.5 ford cougar got a time belt or a timing chain? and at what mileage should i change it?
Answers:
hi just checked on my auto data cd and it is definitely chain driven none on the cougar on that size engine are belt
If it is a ford it probably has a rubber band. lol
It has a belt and should be changed every 100000 miles
It has a timing belt, replace at 60,000 miles to prevent engine damage. Hope this helps.
Yes its got a timing belt and should be changed under normal usage at approx 60000 but give ford a ring to double check as some early models are 36000, just give them your reg no and they will tell you for definate!
Well, it depends on the year. I think this is the 2.3 model but that is for the rear wheel drive. Is this a FWD car? If so, it has a timing chain. It is a stroked 2.3 Topaz/Tempo engine. If this car is RWD it has a timing belt. It is the stroked version of the 2.3 Pinto engine that since has been used in the Ranger and is the best you can have. It was modified to a round tooth belt in the late 80's. It will need to be replaced every 60,000 miles. With the added info requested, I could tell you a lot more, but this should get you buy..there's just a BIG difference between the FWD (cam in block) and the RWD (overhead cam) vehicles when it comes to a 2.3. Good luck.
this is a 2.5 v6 not a 2.3 inline 4 and it has a chain, it is a mazada engine like in their 626. there is no change interval for this. but if it ever brakes it will do major damage,
engine should be from mazda so should be a chain, which isn't a service replaceable item, although the little plastic tensioner (if my memory serves me correct) is but im not sure of the interval. the garage you service it at should know or call a ford place.
