Radio Shack has a very good booklet on speaker cabinet design. There are a lot of factors, too many to tell here.

well , car system is a very hard to build .well if you are looking for a spl car , bass to make you sick , there are loads of think to think about.Car resonate frequency, what freq do you like your music , bounce bass ,stiff bass ,boom bass.Different box are build to cater for this.So if you build one type u might not like .If the bass is too boomy then shrink it gets a tighter Bass .So big boxes give boomer bass.And depends on car too.I can go on like this for hours but i am not going to bore you.Experiment ..
