depends on model and year and it's quite easy in any case, If you have the 4 digit code, the code can be entered by either using the 1-6 buttons on your audio unit display or the satelite remote next to your steering wheel. Once you have entered the code press and hold the channel up button on the audio unit or press and hold the button on the remote which is at the bottom, underneath.

sounds to me like u have the problem I had.unfortunately I had to get mine decoded which cost me £17 - not happy..u may need to take it to a car radio specialist. unless u know the code, then I'm not so sure!
i have a r reg the book for it says turn the thumbwheel on the remote control to get the number you want then press mute to move on to next number .then do the same till you have them all when you have press mute for 2-3 seconds till it bleeps
