Anyone have the same problem? Ive a vauxhall astra 1.6 8v?
Answers:
First of all nothing wrong with an 8 valve they are simpler and easier to repair than 16 valve. Its probably your battery thats the problem you need to get it checked out also your altenator charge rate which would be done at the same time >Regards Mick.
i would never buy a vauxhall again asi have just got rid of mine due to the electrics light kept coming on i spent hundreds on it but it kept on coming on,
vauxhalls are renown for stupidness!
Tired battery possibly. If you can, try a known good battery in it or try your battery in another car.
If it's done a lot of miles it could take a long time to start due to low compression. It'd need a rebuild to sort that so if the battery is fine and the motor still works don't worry about it.
It is proberly because it is a vauxhall and it has come to the end of its short life,
If i were you i would never buy one,
You might need to get it repared or scrap it and buy and nice new car
If the engine is slow to turn over it certainly could be a lazy starter. Try getting a second opinion from another garage. If it was a battery with a dead cell, you would probably struggle to grind it over three times without flattening the battery completely so I don't think its that. Possibly it could have a slight misfire, plugs need cleaning, or new leads and distributor cap.
Slow turnover could be also : Bad Battery, Bad starter motor or Bad Earth, old engine oil (even if you haven't driven it far, it can emulsify and be thick when its cold).
- also check the idle valve.
8v or 16v shouldn't make a difference.
My Vauxhall is 10yrs old and starts every time, and not just because it is a 24V - and I do about 350 miles per week.
Keep the electrics clean.
The engine lights come and it cuts out if I use Optimax; Texaco or Tesco Super Unleaded aren't a problem.
it sounds like the starter but it wiuld pay to ceck the cranking voltage and current of your battery first
