How do I find out the Horse power of an engine for instance on an 2800cc engine?
Answers:
one horse power is 746watts
however the emgine capacity bares only a small amount to the actual power,
the compression ratio, fuel, the aspiration (normally, turbocharged, supercharged), and the gearing through the transmission, all play a part, as well as efficiency
if you told me the make and model of the car, it would be easy.
for example, a mitsubishi evo IX fq400 hav a 2000CC engine, pushing out 400 horsepower.
my dad's peugeot 406 shdi has a 2200 cc engine with 165 horsepower
(and that's been re-mapped).
your engine could have 120h.p. or it could have 400, depending on the above factors.
email me with make and model and i'll try to help you further.
Try :
parkers.co.uk
- reviews - technical data
I hope this helps.
I think it varies from car to car - www.parkers.co.uk is a good bet - choose the car the engine is from in the "reviews" section and go to the technical data- it gives you tonnes of info like that.
The best one i have come across is www.wisebuyers.co.uk.
The site has everything you could wish to know about any car
Very easy to use
per 1000cc is supposed to be equal to one horse so go figure
2.8 horses
take it to a rolling road for a horse power test
Needs to be put on a dynamometer. Only way to check Brake Horse Power. Horse power was an old mesurement related to engine size.
