Are there any lasting effects of getting rain water in a car's clutch?
Answers:
hi
The water assuming it was clean will evaporate or dry out from the clutch plate system.. Oil and other impurities that may be present would have a loger lasting effect but they too would eventually burn off.. Driving through deep water isn't generally recommended and if you do it often anough you may find other mechanical issues becoming apparant such as the grease packed thrust bearing in the clutch housing becoming corroded..
Good luck..
y dont u just STOP driving thro deep puddles u moron, then u wldnt have to ask such a stupid question, jesus some people !!
no depending on type clutch you may need te grease throw out bearing on clutch.
As AO said, really. It is a common thing when driving cars through deep water that are not designed to do so (which is almost all of them, to be honest).
Try to avoid it where you can. The heat generated from within the clutch unit will dry out the plates, but the water prbably carried all sorts of oils, chemicals and particulates that may or may not have burned off completely. But clutches are a bugger to work on on your own without a nice lifting ramp like wot garages use. so you takes your chance
