What is a ringing sound from engine timing belt area?
It also disappears when the car has been running a while and the engine is hot. Any ideas please?

Must be the clutch then.
If there was a problem with the timing belt, it would make a noise constantly.
you just need to tighten it again..cos when u replace new set, after a while it season, it will lose a bit..
Nearly all clutche have a slight rattle or mechanical noise to them that you can hear and feel when you press and release the pedal, i'd get it looked at though, coz if it's something to do with that timing belt and it goes you'll be on your next engine..
sounds like your harmonic balancer most of them have a ringing sound to them when they are bad and thats the ony thing near the timming area that would do that your harmonic balancer is the main pully on the crank shaft and most fuel injection cars have them i would take it to your local repair shop and get an estimate
It sounds as if your timing belt is not correctly set for tension.

Excessive end float on the crank. When the engine warms up and the block expands, this goes away. When you press the clutch, this pushes the crank forwards and takes away the end float. This wants checking, it may be that your crank thrust bearings are worn. Some are separate bearings and some are formed into your main centre shell.
It's either Mick or Chester. Sounds like the timing belt tension is too tight. Won't hurt it, maybe shorten the life, but not too much. But it could also be an idler pully bearing going out. Good luck.
