Does any commerical airplane flights fly above Antarctica ? (Maybe New Zealand to South America?)?
So, how about in the southern hemisphere? Do they fly above Antarctica? If yes, which flight(s)?
Answers:
Qantas does fly over Antarctica

But these are specific antarctic sight seeing flights. No commercial flights go over Antarctica to go somewhere - as they do over the northern hemisphere.
Other airlines have flown over Antarctica, again for Antarctic sight seeing. Air New Zealand did untill a terrible accident in which a flight crashed into Mt Erebus killing all 239 souls on board.
While I was at South Pole a few years ago a Lan Chile tourist flight which flew into totallity of a solar eclipse flew over the South Pole. It was REALLY cool to see a huge white 747 fly over!
I guess the bottom line is that most of the southern hemisphere's populated places are too far north for great circle routes over the Pole to be more direct.

That's a great question! And I have no idea, but answered so I can go back and see what everyone says!

I think new zealand to argentina or chile would be probable YES!
They dont, trust me. If you were on the south side of the earth, WAY down south to the other side, it would just be easier to fly around because the south pole is where all of the magenetic forces of the earth meet and go in totally different directions. If the plane does not fly fast enough, it can be totally ripped apart.
