you shouldn't have to keep 'topping up' the coolent, this tells me you have a leak somewhere, get that fixed sooner rather than later,
yes you've got an air lock, best way to clear it is to run the engine with the cap off, once the fan cuts in turn the engine off, top up as neccessary, then put the cap back on!
FIX THE LEAK SOON.
if you don't fix it you WILL damage the engine
Sounds like an electrical problem: the voltage regulator isn't regulating well, and/or the battery is weak. The fluctuating voltage causes the gauges to give false indications. I'd have a shop check it out.
I've had a few of these cars and it is a common problem.
I leave the engine running from cold with the rad' cap off till it heats up, then switch it off and leave it to cool, then top up slowly and replace the cap.
It's worked about half the times I've tried it.
If engine is hot, heater draws heat off engine to power heat.
If temp drops off after topping up water, maybe there is a leak in the water system. could be nothing serious, perhaps a bost hose or loose connector.
Have a good root round you water system and look for leaks.
Have you check the thermostat ? Sounds like its closed may need a new one.. Or water pump is going out . I am a blonde & a woman. Thanks
