Citroen Xsara - ABS Warning Light.?

Does anyone know why the warning light for the ABS on a 2001 stays lit? Changed the brake pads and thought it would sort it but it's still there. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Answers:
when the abs light is on there is a malfunction in the abs system. when the light comes on the car has turned off the abs system. it is still perfectly safe to drive the car, it is just you can now lock up ur brakes. the light has to be checked with a specail scanner which costs abour $3000.00 so if you go to a good shop they can check it for you. it is most likly a bad sensor or a dirty one.
The most likely cause is a wheel speed sensor , the problem is which one , finding out physically is a long tedious business better to take to a garage and put on a computer which will point out the offending one immediately
First thing to check is the sensor wires going to your caliper units. Then if nothing obvious ie broken wire you need to get the fault codes read.Regards MIck.
