How long should a car battery last for?

I have a 1994 Vauxhall Astra, and I've had the battery for a few years. How long do car batteries last for

Answers:
There is no standard life for a car battery. There are too many variables that affect a battery's life.

Temperature is a big one - cold temps reduce the voltage and make your car harder to start. High temps shorten the life of a battery.

Is your car well-tuned so that the engine cranks over and starts quickly, reducing the starter load on the battery? New spark plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap, and a new fuel filter will help start the engine faster every time.

Do your alternator and voltage regulator work properly so the battery is being recharged, and so the alternator suupplies most of your car voltage requirements while driving? Do you drive a lot of short trips? -- that will reduce your alternator's recharing time.

Do you regularly check the battery acid level to make sure it's topped off with distilled water? (Assuming a standard, non-maintenance free type.) Do you keep the cable clamps tight and the battery's terminal posts clean of corrosion ? (About once a year, apply a paste of water and baking soda to neutralize any acid on the top of the battery, then wash with water.)

Inexpensive batteries might last only 2 or 3 years.
A high-quality battery could last 5-6 years, or more, if the battery and the car are well-maintained.
3YEARS DEPENDING WHERE YOU LIVE
Usually guaranteed for 2 years. Now it depends how often you use it. Mine is nearly 7 years old and still going strong.
my last 1 was 5 years
my car was bought in 1999 and the battery finally went last week.
If they are maintained correctly as per manufactures guidlines and your alternator is okay then there is no reason they can't last 10 years.

It depends if they are the correct battery for the vehicle, if they are abused, the type of driving you do and the temperatures you drive in.

They should last more than a couple of years.
Most batteries are rated anywhere from 24 months to 60 months. It depends on the battery rating and meeting the services requirements of the battery, such as battery water ,cleaning the teriminals and making sure the alternate is working.
3 years
5 Years
i would say on average 5 - 7 years
2/3 years seems about average, some last longer and the make of the battery has very little to do with it.
i worked for yuasa automotive known as LUCAS aswell in birmingham uk,they give 3 years guarantee so that mean it could last for 4_5 years.
